  • Why the Wii Remote is better than the Move Motion Controller

    Date: 2010.08.16 | Category: Uncategorized | Response: 2

It is one month until the long awaited battle between the Wii and Playstation Move begins. Up for grabs is a large slice of the “casual gamer” and family games market. Sony is hoping that 2010 will be a big year for the PS3, but really is it a fair fight. Is the Motion Controller better than the Wii remote? Think about this:

The KING – Wii is the undisputed king of the casual gamer and family games market. This battle is like Mike TYSON taking on Bill GATES in a game of poker. TYSON has experience and runs on the board but GATES is the new kid and is very, very well financed.

Colour – The original (and most popular) Wii remote is white and everyone knows that good guys wear white.

Games – The Wii has a huge range of games aimed squarely at the family market. MOVE is playing catch up and needs developers to jump on board with some great games to support its technology.

Current Market – The Wii has sold 70 million units worldwide compared to the PS3’s 38 million. Almost 2 to 1. That means there are a lot of people out there who love the Wii remote and own a Nintendo Wii.

This is going to be a long battle, and don’t forget XBOX Kinect, but the Wii and Wii remote have a lot of loyal fans. Bang a gong – lets get it on.

  • Wii Wheel – You can’t drive Mario without one

Date: 2010.08.07 | Category: Must Have Wii Accessories | Response: 2

    wii wheel

While the Wii remote is a great accessory, I find that it just doesn’t have the right feel when you turn it on the side and use it to drive vehicles around. To make the driving experience more enjoyable the Wii wheel is the perfect solution.

Simple. Intuitive. Easy to use. The Wii Wheel gives you a fun, comfortable way to play driving and racing games. Designed to improve your accuracy and control, it makes racing games more realistic.

Slide in the Wii remote and away you go. Just be mindful of the cheaper versions. I recently used a 3rd party wheel and one of the biggest concerns was using the buttons – they just didn’t seem to work as well as the genuine Nintendo Wii wheel. And for the sake of maybe three dollars I would stick to the genuine product.

  • Wii Remote + Wii Play – So worth the extra money!

Date: 2010.08.01 | Category: Must Have Wii Accessories | Response: 13

As far as Wii accessories go, the Wii remote is supreme. Why – because you need it for every game and the more Wii remotes, the more fun you can have with your friends. But before you jump in and buy the Wii remote, consider purchasing Wii Play with one of the remotes. It is great value for money and some of the games are fantastic fun. Not only do you get the Wii Remote but you get nine addictive games:
Shooting Range: The player shoots down targets ranging from clay pigeons to ducks to UFOs. In the final stage, the Mii a player is using appears on the screen, wandering in a field and being abducted by UFOs. If the player shoots that UFO down, the abductee returns to the field.

Find Mii: The player must find and select specific Miis from a crowd within a set amount of time. If the player has any user-created Miis, they appear in the crowd as well. The crowds grow larger and start moving as the player clears more levels.
Table Tennis: Players rally the ball back and forth, shooting for the longest sustained rally. In the multiplayer version, players compete to score points, as in traditional table tennis. Players use the pointer to move the paddle.

Pose Mii: The player moves his Mii on the screen, rotating it and changing its pose to match the silhouettes inside falling bubbles. The player must pop the bubble by matching its pose before the bubble hits the bottom of the screen.
Laser Hockey: Players move paddles on an air hockey table, trying to hit the puck past the opponent’s goal. The puck’s motion is affected by the angle of the paddle and the speed with which the puck is hit. The Wii Remote pointer moves the paddle, while twisting the Wii Remote rotates the paddle on the screen.

Billiards: The player must sink all nine balls in the proper order. In single player, if a player fails to hit the correct ball or sinks his cue ball, the player’s score drops; in multiplayer, the other player can place the ball anywhere on the screen before taking a turn.

Fishing: Players must catch the fish indicated at the top of the screen. This game uses the Wii Remote: The pointer moves the hand holding the fishing pole. Moving forward places the hook farther out in the lake, while moving back places it hook closer. When a fish bites, the player yanks the Wii Remote back, pulling the fish out of the water.

Charge!: The player controls a charging cow, guiding it into scarecrows and knocking them over. Players control the cow by tilting the Wii Remote on its side and turning it like a steering wheel. Tilting forward speeds the cow up, and tilting back slows it down.

Tanks!: The player controls a tank and must shoot other tanks. The shots rebound once off the walls before disappearing. The player controls his tanks with the +Control Pad (Note: players can also use the Nunchuk’s control stick to steer the tank) and aim the tank’s cannon using the Wii Remote’s pointer.

  • Wii Nunchuk – You can’t have one without the other.

    Date: 2010.07.25 | Category: Buying Guide | Response: 2

The Wii nunchuk and Wii remote go together like Sonny and Cher (if you remember them), like police and doughnuts or like Homer and Beer (hmmm, beer). You just can’t have one without the other. Coupled with the Wii Remote, the nunchuk makes playing games easy. At the very least, the remote and nunchuk are the two must have Wii accessories.

The Nunchuk connects to the Wii Remote at its expansion port and is used in conjunction with the Wii Remote.

The Nunchuk contains the same motion-sensing technology enabled in the Wii Remote but also includes an analogue stick to assist in character movement. In several games, players will use the analogue stick of the Nunchuk to move their characters and the Wii Remote to perform a specific action, whether that’s throwing a pass in football or aiming a ranged weapon in an action game.
Lastly, one Wii remote and Wii nunchuk just doesn’t cut it. The Wii console is all about family fun, so you need at least two so that players have someone to compete against.

  • Classic Controller – One of the must have Wii accessories

    wii classic controller

When people think of the Wii controllers, they think about the Wii remote and nunchuk. But for me, the other must have Wii accessory is the classic controller. While it might not be held in the same regard as the Wii remote and in some circles is seen as the cousin we don’t talk about, if you are serious about wii accessories and gaming then this is a must have.

The Classic Controller is needed to play some Virtual Console games and is sold separately. The thin, traditionally shaped peripheral plugs directly into the Wii remote, and it combines the best features of the SNES and N64 controllers.

So if you own a Wii, have access to the internet and love your classic games, than this is the controller you must have. Go on, give the controller a good home.

  • Where to buy Wii Accessories online?

    Date: 2010.07.18 | Category: Buying Guide | Response: 0

This is a question that a lot of people ask themselves, where is the best place to buy Wii accessories from the comfort of my own home? There are numerous great looking websites but which one is the right one?

    Shopping online guide
    • Research – a good shopping site will have plenty of product information and may even include some reviews to assist you.
    • Look for quality sites – just like retailing shopping, would you shop in a run down, dirty looking store? The same can be said about shopping sites. Look for good quality sites with clear images (the more the better), helpful information and are easy to use.
    • Do you trust the site – is it professional?
    • Look for the padlock – when entering your credit card details look for the padlock to appear in the navigation bar on your web browser (no padlock – means your details are not secure)

One site we like is GAMECOW. They not only carry a large range of Wii accessories but I particularly love the way they have categorised their products into users (boy, girls, gamers, accessories) rather than genre (first person, driving, action). Take a look.

    Till next time.

  • Wii Remote – The original motion controller

    Date: 2010.07.15 | Category: Buying Guide | Response: 0

The Wii Remote is motion-sensitive, letting you twist, lunge, tilt, and shake your way to gaming greatness. It can also be used as a direct pointing device, so you can point and click directly at the screen.

In a tennis game, it serves as your racquet. In a driving game, it serves as your steering wheel. For first-person shooters, the Wii Remote acts as your weapon that you point at an enemy. A rumble device and a built-in speaker offer feedback.

The Wii Remote is the small size a normal tv remote, but a little thicker. The remote is the reason the Nintendo Wii console is so popular. At the start it does take a little bit of time to figure out, especially when you are pointing it at the menu screen, but it won’t take long.

    Tips:
ALWAYS wear the wrist strap – A flying remote can break your new television
You need room – When there is multiple players, allow plenty of room for swinging
Take a break – Your shoulder will hurt after a while so take a break
Be fair – Remember the kids want to play as well.

  • Wii Accessories – The original and best!

    Date: 2010.07.15 | Category: Wii General | Response: 2

As a Ninteno Wii owner I was interested in the announcements from Sony and Microsoft at this year’s E3 conference. Some people have stated that these two products could be the death of the Wii, or at the very least eat into the Wii’s target audience – the family or casual gamer market. Isn’t copying the greatest form of flattery, don’t both of these accessories mean that Nintendo have it right, and the other consoles have it all wrong.

When the Wii was first released both Sony and Microsoft laughed and thought the Wii was no competition for their respective consoles. But who is laughing now, Nintendo actually make money from their console, where the others lose money and have to make it up through license agreements.

Lastly, don’t for one minute think that Nintendo won’t be responding with something new and exciting before Christmas.

  • A naughty thought about Wii Accessories?

By now you all would have heard the story of a British woman who fell off a Wii Fit balance board and now the slightest vibration will lead to an orgasm. She states she needs sex up to 10 times a day to control the feelings “down below”. I know that the Wii Fit is popular with the ladies, but what accessory would be the most popular with males?

Have a think, but it would depend on whether you are single or not – wouldn’t it? Either way, I am sure your forearms will improve.
